Advocate Hub
You Make the Day Possible
One Tribe One Day is hosted on GiveCampus, the online platform that powers our annual day of giving. It’s the central hub for the celebration — where gifts are made, matches and challenges go live, and Advocates can track the impact of the outreach they inspire.
When you become an OTOD Advocate, you receive a unique GiveCampus link connected to your account. That link allows you to share the campaign with your network and see, in real time, how many gifts you’ve helped generate.
Your personal outreach — a text, an email, a post or a quick video — can be the reason someone decides to give. Every share makes a difference. Every conversation expands your impact.
How Advocates Make the Biggest Impact
How to be an effective Advocate:
- Give early on OTOD.
- Share personally, as one-to-one outreach is powerful.
- Make a clear ask and include your unique link.
- Follow up during the day with a reminder.
- Tell your story in your own voice.
You don’t need a large audience or following. You just need to care about W&M and invite others to join you.
Get Started in Five Steps
Step 1: Log In or Create Your GiveCampus Account
Log in to GiveCampus so your outreach can be tracked and credited to you. If you’re already a Class Ambassador, your account has already been created.
Step 2: Offer a Match or Challenge (Optional)
You can create a personal OTOD match or challenge via GiveCampus to encourage others to give.
- Match gifts dollar-for-dollar.
- Create a challenge goal (for example, 25 donors from your class).
- Consider restricting your match or challenge by your class year, affiliation or to a list of your friends (by email address) to raise the stakes.
Step 3: Make Your Gift on OTOD
Leading by example makes your outreach more compelling. Make your gift early on OTOD so you can share why you gave.
Step 4: Share Your Personal Advocate Link
People are far more likely to give when invited by someone they know. Your voice is what turns awareness into action. When you share your unique Advocate link on One Tribe One Day, we can track the gifts you inspire and celebrate your impact. Text it. Email it. Post it. Start with the people who know you best and tell them why you’re giving on OTOD.
Need a starting point? Use our social media graphics and sample email language, then make it your own. There’s no one else who has your story — but here’s a simple formula that works:
- Be genuine. Share why William & Mary matters to you.
- Be brief. A short, personal message goes further than a long explanation.
- Make a clear ask. Include your Advocate link and invite them to join you.
- Use #OneTribeOneDay when posting on social media to amplify the reach.
You + 2 Incentive
If you make your gift and inspire two others to give through your link, you’ll receive exclusive William & Mary swag as a thank you.
Step 5: Tell Your Story with a Personal Video (Optional but Powerful)
A Personal Video is a short message explaining why you’re excited about One Tribe One Day and why others should join you.
- Film using your phone — no special equipment or software needed.
- Keep it brief, authentic and compelling. Get creative by bringing in kids, pets or donning school pride gear.
- Upload it before OTOD launches for maximum visibility.
- Videos are reviewed before appearing on the campaign page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Because of the volume of gifts received, final participation and fundraising totals may take several days to confirm. Results will be shared on the OTOD website and via a press release the week following One Tribe One Day.
Visit the One Tribe One Day giving page to explore all giving options.
Any member of the William & Mary community (alumni, parents, faculty, staff or friends) is welcome to participate as an Advocate.
After logging in to the One Tribe One Day campaign page on GiveCampus, you’ll see built-in sharing buttons and a personalized link connected to your account. Copy that link when sharing so your outreach can be tracked and credited to you.
When at least one person clicks on your personal giving link, you will be listed as an Advocate. Once listed, you will then be able to see the number of clicks and gifts generated from your link.
Share your link on One Tribe One Day. Do not share prior to OTOD as your link will not work.
Absolutely. Most Personal Videos are simple selfie videos filmed on a smartphone. There’s no need for special equipment, a script or editing. Keep it short, speak from the heart and share why you’re participating. That’s what makes it effective.
All Personal Videos are reviewed before they appear on the campaign page. Once approved, your video will go live.
As early as possible — ideally before the public launch. Early videos help inspire the first wave of donors and build momentum for the day.
