The 'Save Our Bay Scallops' Tribefunding campaign raised more than $20,000 to purchase and then seed thousands of juvenile bay scallops into the seaside bays of Virginia’s Eastern Shore with the goal of giving this species, locally extinct since the '30s, its best chance for revival.

Who can submit a project?
Currents students, faculty and staff are welcome to submit an application. Projects should benefit the W&M community, align with the mission of the university and adhere to all university policies.
How are projects selected?
Projects are evaluated based on their goals, suitability for crowdfunding and commitment demonstrated by the team. We will work with teams to adjust projects as needed to ensure a successful outcome.
What support is offered to project teams?
Staff within University Advancement will help all approved projects at every stage of their campaigns. Training will be provided to help teams craft a great strategy, leverage their own networks and promote their projects online. And after projects are launched, we’ll continue to support projects and help teams reach their goals.
What should project teams expect?
Although most campaigns run for just 30 days, Tribefunding is a 3-month commitment. We recommend teams have one or two project leaders, with 8-10 additional members who can take an active role promoting the project. All team members are encouraged to attend an orientation training session; this training is required for project leaders. Teams will develop a detailed budget for their project, as well as a description, short video, social media plan and outreach calendar to promote the project.
Fundraising isn’t easy, but we’re here to help! Tribefunding is powered by the GiveCampus online platform and includes assistance from staff within University Advancement.
